Yo viajo
Yo viajo (2008) is made in response to my experience of El Salvador’s civil war. Yo viajo provides a historical context while offering the possibility of the public’s intervention in the construction of new narratives in the present. The installation consists of: three blown up family photos originally contributed by Fulbright workshop participants from their own family albums and selected as ‘keys to memory’ to specific historical moments in 20th century El Salvador; a video piece made from juxtaposing other family photos collected during the Fulbright with twice or thrice appropriated combat video scenes of El Salvador’s civil war as posted in YouTube; and finally, the public’s contribution of their own family photos and migration narratives.
Exhibited at the Corcoran's Gallery 31 (2008) and University of Texas, Austin (2012).
